I took an SAT II in the morning (remember those?) and then rushed home to catch the start of this one. Granted, it was a Royals/Yankees game in June, so the stakes were pretty low, but I wanted to get as far away from the testing center as I could.
The game went back and forth – the Royals were up 5-1, then the Yankees were up 6-5, then the Royals went up 10-6, then the Yankees tied it 10-10, then David Dejesus hit a home run off Mariano Rivera to make it 11-10, and, finally, Johnny Damon capped off a 6-hit game with a walkoff double in the ninth inning.
The Yankee offense had a 1.490 WPA, which is the highest for an offense in one game in the last 20 years.
