Jungleland

I never got a chance to see Bruce and the E Street band while Clarence Clemons was alive. But, I did see them last August with Jake Clemons, Clarence’s son.

Clarence had been dead for over a year, and Jake was a fine substitute, but I thought there was no way they would play Jungleland. The band hadn’t played the song in the U.S. since Clarence’s death. It was one of Clarence’s most recognizable sax solos.

And then, during the encore, I heard that recognizable piano and violin duet that opens the song. They were playing it. The crowd cheered, and then went silent, as if they knew this was something special. Jake nailed the solo.
